Josef Hoffmann was one of the co-founders in 1897 of the "Vienna Secession", and in 1903 the "Wiener Werkstatte". The work of Hoffmann agreed rationalism of Wagner with an expression of geometric and linear decoration, influenced by the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
 
Hoffmann's designs for the Werkstatte unite so extreme individuality and professionalism with a great interest in the 'authenticity of materials and against functionalism that marked all his work and then his works, as evidenced by his creations
