Vitra Lounge Chair: The Top of Relax

The vitra lounge chair (made in 1956) represents one of the best and most famous work by Charles Eames (one of the most important architect and designer of the last century). The particular lines of this lounge chair and the materials used to made it, with advanced technical solutions, had make the vitra lounge chair one of the symbols of modern furniture design. This lounge chair melts a classical style, ever elegant and actual, and a comfort that is not easy to find even in modern products with new technologies.

The vitra lounge chair was borne from the intuition of Charles Eames: the designer wanted to redesign and actualize the classical English club chair, without losing classical elegance and style.
Charles Eames' declared aim for this chair was to combine the utmost comfort with high-end materials and high-quality finishing. The result: a modern interpretation of the traditional club armchair boasting a convincingly well thought-out construction, right down to its tiniest details.

Just as he intended, the chair conveys the impression of a soft, well-used baseball glove, inviting the user to sink back into it.
In a career that spanned over forty years, husband and wife duo Charles and Ray Eames developed countless ground-breaking pieces of furniture. Cementing their names as figureheads of America’s Mid-century Modern movement, the couple produced a prolific range of designs including the Eames Lounger (1956), DSW Chair (1950) and Eames House (1949) all of which are still to this day heralded for their innovative use of new materials.

With the vitra lounge chair Charles Eames wanted to renovate the English club chair and resolve some of the problems that can give by inserting this kind of chair in a modern furniture. First of all the problem of the space: because this kind of lounge chair take a plenty of space and is not easy to insert this kind of chair in a living room or in a studio. The second problem was the comfort: the classic English Club chair was elegant but also uncomfortable. But with the vitra lounge chair Charles Eames solved this two problems.

Indeed the vitra lounge chair has smaller dimension regard the classic English club chair, but at the same time it is big enough to be a lounge chair: with the dimensions of this lounge chair, you can easily insert it in a living room or in a studio of a modern house. This lounge chair could give a touch of elegance to every kind of furniture and adapt easily to every ambient and every kind of furniture of your house.

And also the vitra lounge chair has in the comfort its strength: indeed Charles Eames studied and realized the backrest and the seat of this lounge chair to obtain a “shell” effect. Sitting in the vitra lounge chair give a sense of complete comfort and relax, maximized by outstretching the feet on the combined ottoman. If you choose this lounge chair for your living room or your studio you will buy not only a piece of history furniture but also a very comfortable lounge chair, a place where you can totally relax.
