Lounge Chair by Eames: Wrapped in a Shell

The lounge chair by eames is an armchair that succeeded in interpreting the sense of comfort and elegance, all melted in a single object. Is a common opinion that is not easy for a design object to join together style, beauty and practicality of use. Instead the lounge chair by eames is an object with elegant and unique style and also a very comfortable lounge chair: it is the best choice to spend some time of relax, even reading a good book or watching an interesting film on television.

The creator of the lounge chair by eames, the American designer Charles Eames had the goal to obtain the maximum comfort for its lounge chair: there is a very interesting anecdotal on the born of this lounge chair. Charles Eames, when was explaining to his wife Ray (who worked with him) what effect he wanted to obtain with his lounge chair, crossed his hands and his fingers, almost getting an egg shape. That was the  best shape for the framework of his lounge chair.

With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look."

That look and their relationship with Herman Miller started with molded plywood chairs in the late 1940s and includes the world-renowned Eames lounge chair, now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Charles Eames putted a great attention in the research of comfort, also using particular materials: the backrest and the seat of the lounge chair by eames are made in lathes of curved plywood (in those years this material was used for the orthopedics aids) to obtain a framework with a good resistance and a great flexibility. Using this material Charles Eames reached his goal and made a lounge chair that wrap the user like a hug.

The sensation of comfort offered by the lounge chair by eames is extended by the material that the creator choses for the coating: soft leather, elegant and comfortable. And Charles Eames choses the same materials for the ottoman, a nice completion for this lounge chair, used to support feet and outstretch legs, in a position of maximum comfort.

Charles Eames said his goal for the chair was the "warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt." Every one is a special refuge from the strains of modern living.  The first lounge chair and ottoman, produced in 1956, was a birthday gift for friend Billy Wilder, the Academy Award-winning film director, and it made its public debut on Arlene Francis' Home show, which later became the Today show.

If you choose the lounge chair by eames for your home or office you will buy not only an icon of modern design, but also a comfortable and elegant “palce” to relax with your most like hobbies.
