Eileen Grey Table, timeless design

Pure expression of the modern movement, the Eileen Gray Table, also known as "Adjustable table E-127" is, for more than 80 years, one of the objects of the most loved and imitated design.

The Eileen Gray Table made its appearance in 1927, in the heart of the modern movement: the period in which everyday objects, stripping of ornaments and tinsel, dressed efficiency and simplicity. It is for this reason that even today the Eileen Gray Table is considered the flagship of a historical period and cultural context in which archittura, design and industry, have merged into un'unicum ideas of rational and functional.

In Germany, developed mainly in the Bauhaus school of art that influenced not a little Eileen Gray in his artistic career. The Adjustable table E-127 is both the "Tube Light", the object of design that best summarizes the artistic maturity by the Irish.

The modern movement changed the tastes of Eileen Gray, since that time pioneer art nuveau and deep knowledge of the techniques of lacquer. It was his time in London, and especially in Paris, during the First World War, to make them decide to specialize in design and interior architecture, embracing the stylistic innovations of the modern movement.

A simple look at 'Adjustable table E-127 gives an idea of the efficiency and simplicity of this object. Eileen Gray, in fact, she used to say that art should always be the prolongation of life. His motto is verifiable in elegance and convenience of 'Adjustable table E-127: a thin but strong steel structure, made up of two tubes, supporting the circular surface of adjustable support, transparent glass, reclining on a semicircular , also in steel and glass.

With its reduced dimensions (50 cm depth and width, variable height from 60 to 100 cm), the Eileen Gray Table can be a wonderful base for a cocktail, a book, or a simple piece of furniture in a living room.

His name, complete code (Adjustable table E-127), is related to the construction Eileen Gray devised with his partner and collaborator, Jean Badovici. The dwelling of the sea in the south of France, hid in his code name of the two founders.

The Eileen Gray Table was part of the furniture created around the idea of a house with clean lines, in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Typical manifestation of the modern movement, the house E-127 is now in ruins, but the simple yet revolutionary idea on which it rested, he continues to live in Eileen Gray Table.
