Chester sofa: Elegance classic furniture

The origins of the Chester sofa
Some people think that the Chester sofa is so named because it is derived from the name of the town of Chesterfield in Derbyshire. It is said that these sofas are named by the Earl of Chesterfield - but this has never been proven.

The choice of a Chester sofa is a big decision - you do not buy a leather sofa or fabric covered with leather or fabric, but much more.

The first form of removable seats that can accommodate two or more people in 1500. The most comfortable sofa with backrest was created in the late 17th century. A sofa is technically a long chair that has two or more people. An armchair is still defined as a place along consists of two seat cushions and intended to accommodate two persons. So two pillows and older was called a sofa.

The probable origin of the word is taken from the sofa Suffah Arabic and refers to a long seat covered usually with arms and back.

A Chester sofa is similar in construction and style of the sofa, only larger and more comfortable.

In the 18th century the sofa Chester took hold, it was one of the first to be fully cushioned sofas. We tend to think and imagine the leather Chesterfield sofa, but were initially used tissues Victorians.

A very important development took place after 1830. The first example of a sofa in fabric or leather fù stuffed with horsehair and wadding, but after the introduction of upholstered furniture from about 1830 seats and backs are filled with metal coil springs supported by straps Hessian, and then covered with layers of horsehair and wool. In order to make room for new couches springs became deeper, wider and therefore more comfortable.

Another word used to define a sofa in fabric or leather is couche, which derives from Middle French, which means going to bed, a sofa was actually a bed, a sofa that is actually a piece of furniture for sitting or lying down . The French also refer to a couch with a kind of extended seat, including the famous lounge chair or chair designed to relax, rather than sleep, usually had a high end.

The Chester sofa is synonymous with quality, class and elegance
